BET Awards 2012 Recap

The BET Awards took place this week at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA and were hosted by Samuel Jackson. Since Kevin Hart hosted last season, many were left head scratching wondering how and if Jackson could measure up and in fact, he did. Who would have ever though, Samuel Jackson would be so funny! The highlight of him hosting was when he and Spike Lee appeared on stage for a parody of The Thone’s  “Ball So Hard” song which left Jay-Z and Kanye West absolutely balling from laughter.  Aside from the good humor, winners were announced on the new Sprint Evil tablet versus the traditional cards – surely a thing of the past! Although there weren’t any explosive performances, the tribute to Frankie Beverly and Maze, who were later presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award, was done to perfection as Joe Thomas and Tyrese sang some of the legend’s hits as Frankie himself sang Before I Let Go.

The most memorable moment which left just about every attendee in tears was the Tribute to Whitney Houston sang by her own mom, Cicely Houston. It had to be the most joyous yet painful moment to hear her beautiful vocal cords carry throughout the auditorium as a oversized projector screen displayed their picture from Houston’s younger days.

Let us not forget the red carpet, yes the carpet! Most of America was tuned in to see who was wearing what. Our favorite looks of the evening were Selita E Banks and LaLa Anthony.
