The third Fashion’s Night Out, to be held September 8, will include e-tailers, meaning you can participate in Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Company, and the City of New York’s huge shopping event from the comfort of your own home. Why didn’t they think of that sooner?
Online retailers are now invited to create their own virtual events, selling limited edition merchandise, from $15-$50, to mark the night. So far, Polyvore has signed on to showcase different online stores and will enlist Vogue editors and celeb fashionistas to create their own looks to inspire potential FNO shoppers.
But that’s not all — shoppers eager to get into the sartorial spirit can purchase long-and short-sleeved t-shirts, baseball caps and tote bags at fashionsnightout.com.
Japan Fashion Week has unsurprisingly been canceled following the disastrous events in the country, Women’s Wear Daily reports. The event was supposed to take place March 21 to 25, but several brands had already called off their shows or postponed indefinitely. A statement posted on the Fashion Week website explains, “Due to the multiple concerns regarding current electricity shortages, unreliable transportation, and general safety concerns, the “Japan Fashion Week in Tokyo” that was scheduled to take place this week and next week has been cancelled… Regarding the contents of the collection, we also intend to make the collection available on the web as a means to not only provide more opportunities for business connections but also so that it may act as a source for information.”
CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg and executive director Steven Kolb alternatively took the Swarovski-encrusted podium at von Furstenberg’s studio in New York yesterday evening to announce the 2011 CFDA Awards nominees. Alexander Wang continued his strong awards streak with nominations in three categories; Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s The Row was nominated for the first time in the Swarovski emerging Womenswear Design category; and Lady Gaga should be expected at the awards ceremony — which will be held June 6 at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall — she’s taking home this year’s Fashion Icon award, after, according to von Furstenberg, “overwhelmingly, all the votes [for the category]” went her way — “to someone who started a fashion revolution.”
The Swarovski emerging Award for Accessory Design, meanwhile, has four nominees this year because two nominees were tied in votes. And Marc Jacobs apparently emailed von Furstenberg after he found out he will be awarded the Lifetime Achievement award this year, she said: “He’s very happy, but he says it’s only a half lifetime award because he’s only halfway finished.”
The reigning king of chic luxurious American sportswear, opened the new Michael Kors Collection flagship store at Madison and 67th Street on Monday, and already fits in nice and snug with the neighbors on its corner spot that was, once upon a time, home to Ungaro. The three-level shop showcases all of Kors signature accessories, ready-to-wear, and everything else—swimwear and evening gowns included—all under one roof. The new location is significantly larger than the former Madison and 76th Street store, and is stocked with opulent fixtures, a ton of white—walls, floors, and of course, clothes—as well as a selection of vintage furniture. Despite the store’s grandiosity, Kors explains that “the intimate residential feel is essential for my client and will remain key to the design and feel of the store.”
Britney Spears strikes several seductive poses for April’s Out in the publication’s first-ever “Ladies We Love” issue. In a series of super-personal questions, Spears talks about everything from the best advice she’s received — “My mom said when you have a bad day, eat ice cream,” she shares — to her favorite Golden Girl (Betty White, for the record). But she also dishes on aging and beauty, even touching on the topic of plastic surgery. “When it’s time to pull and tuck, I’m sure I will consider it,” she reveals. Sharing that she’s “excited to be out of [her] 20s,” Spears goes on to say that she’s worked to mold her career after, not surprisingly, Madonna. But she has another famous role model: Carrie Bradshaw herself. “I also admire Sarah Jessica Parker‘s career,” Spears says. “And her shoe collection!” For more on Spears’s likes (grabbing frozen yogurt with her boys) and dislikes (being on a diet), check out the April issue of Out.

In another Jeff Bridges and Penelope Cruz team up for a new spin on Beauty and the Beast. Lastly, Queen Latifah was enlisted to dress the part of Ursula from The Little Mermaid.
Were we the only ones having a strange feeling of fashion deja vu on Sunday night while watching the red carpet arrivals at the Academy Awards? Or were you experiencing the same hazy feeling?
Reese Witherspoon channeled 60′s retro glam, and by all appearances, Julia Roberts’ 2001 Oscars look as well! Not only did Reese’s Armani Prive frock mimic Julia’s vintage black and white Valentino gown, but the 32-year-old actress’ full ponytail was eerily similar to Julia’s look, too. Both even wore drop down earrings!

And when best actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence descended upon the scene at the Kodak Theatre Sunday night, everything about her entire look -from her form-skimming column dress to her tousled locks- was so very reminiscent of Scarlett Johannson’s va-va-voom turn at the 2006 Golden Globes. From the décolletage to the platinum mane, the Calvin Klein-wearing newcomer was a dead ringer for a scarlet Valentino-clad Scarlett.
What do you think of these oddly similar looks? Coincidence? Same stylists? Share your thoughts with us.
John Galliano, the chief designer at Christian Dior since 1996, has been suspended from his duties at the fashion house after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman and making anti-Semitic remarks at an outdoor Paris café.
“Dior affirms with the utmost conviction its policy of zero tolerance towards any antisemitic or racist words or behavior,” Sidney Toledano, the Dior chief executive, said in a statement. “Pending the results of the inquiry, Christian Dior has suspended John Galliano from his responsibilities.”
Police are investigating the case before it is handed over to the public prosecutor’s office. No word as yet on the fate of the Dior show on March 4 or on Galliano’s namesake collection, which is slated to be shown two days later.
Browns was pleased to celebrate a unique partnership with North American retailer, Club Monaco, during London Fashion Week. Club Monaco introduced a select collection of its signature Women’s and Men’s apparel and accessories in Browns’ Shop 24, Browns Men as well as online at www.brownsfashion.com. The women’s collection is the exclusive brand in Browns Shop24 for two months. The men’s collection has taken over the entire ground floor of Browns Mens store. The three points of distribution launched simultaneously on February 14, 2011. This collaboration marked Club Monaco’s entrance both into the United Kingdom and will continue at least through the end of the season.
In a nod to the Spring 2011 Club Monaco campaign shot by Ryan McGinley, a vintage photo booth captured those in attendance and the photos were instantly projected uniquely within the space. Lou Doillon, featured in the Spring 2011 Campaign, hosted the event, with special performances by Clare McGuire and featured a DJ set by Andre Saraiva (‘Le Baron.’)

For its 90th-birthday issue, French magazine L’Officiel features Beyoncé in an African Queen-themed photo shoot. In the shoot, which is a tribute to musician-activist Fela Kuti, the pop songstress’s skin was darkened, a decision which has been criticised by some as offensive.
We prefer to focus on how absolutely flawless and Sasha Fierce she looks on the cover rocking a gold Gucci dress from the Spring 2011 collection but we want to know what you think… Is the picture of Beyonce in blackface offensive or not?
Since most of us won’t be seeing the magazine stateside, here’s a clip showing some of the various images that will be in the hard copy. Enjoy!

Partnering with another fashion-forward celebrity for a good cause, ShoeDazzle® announced the release of Melanie Brown’s “Mel B” shoe. The limited-edition, blinged-out pump will be sold exclusively to ShoeDazzle members, with 100% of profits donated to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
“I was thrilled when ShoeDazzle approached me to participate in their Celebrity Design Program for Charity,” said Mel B. “Designing a shoe has been my life-long dream, and being able to do that for charity is truly rewarding. I am very excited about this dazzling pump!”
Mel B, best known as a Spice Girl and “Dancing with the Stars” contestant, was inspired by the patients of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles who attended her ShoeDazzle design session.
The children wanted the shoe to be “soft and comfortable” on the inside and “daring” on the outside. The finished product, available on March 14, 2011 at ShoeDazzle.com, is a nude pump with a stunningly bejeweled high-heel and a leopard print inside.
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (www.chla.org) is L.A.’s first and largest hospital dedicated to treating children.
