Though many of you may not know it, this week is World Wide Knit In Public Week, which culminates this weekend with knitting events held around the country, including in New York’s Bryant Park which will be holding free knitting classes Saturday, June 15th, with needles and yarn provided for knitters of all ages and stages.
If the fact that internet searches for “knitting for beginners” have increased by over 250% doesn’t prove that knitting is back with a bang, below we’ve disproved 3 major myths about knitting!
3 Major Knitting Myths Busted!
1. Knitting is Just for Old Women:
For anyone that thinks knitting is just for old women, we’ve got plenty of evidence to prove otherwise! Christina Hendricks, Scarlett Johansson Sarah Jessica Parker, Dakota Fanning, Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried are just some of the many celebrities who have been spotted knitting on set recently. And old Hollywood beauties Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn and Katharine Hepburn certainly wouldn’t have approved of this myth either!
2. Knitting is Just a Way To Pass the Time:
Knitting can be more than just a crafty hobby, it can be a life changer. Renowned cashmere designer Iris von Arnim first developed a love for knitting following a car crash that left her hospitalized and bed-bound. She never looked back! Thirty years later, Iris von Arnim is recognized as one of the top German brands of its generation and is widely known as ‘Queen of Cashmere’ in Europe. Celebrity fans of her beautifully crafted, luxury knits include Eva Longoria, Michelle Trachtenberg and Claudia Schiffer, who previously partnered with the brand to launch her cashmere collection.
3. Knitting is Just for Girls
I think Russell Crow, Antonio Banderas and David Arquette might disagree! (even the uber dapper Cary Grant tried his hand at knitting)
