When Issa Monday, anything is possible. Even if it’s seeing one of your favorite celebs arriving at The Met! On the first Monday of May, New York City’s own Metropolitan Museum of Art hosted their annual spring benefit for the Costume Institute. Tickets for this highly anticipated annual fundraiser can cost as much as $30,000.
This year’s gala payed homage to Rei Kawakubo, known for her avant-garde designs. Celebrities were asked to dress for this season’s gala in pieces inspired by Kawakubo’s designs. The exhibit itself, features approximately 140 examples of Kawakubo’s womenswear for Comme des Garçons dating from the early 1980s to her most recent collection.
Objects are organized into nine aesthetic expressions of interstitiality in Kawakubo’s work: Absence/Presence, Design/Not Design, Fashion/Anti-Fashion, Model/Multiple, Then/Now, High/Low, Self/Other, Object/Subject, and Clothes/Not Clothes.
